Cam Galindo announces his candidacy for Public School Trustee in Wards 9 & 10
Stoney Creek, ON - After significant consideration and with input from residents, Cam Galindo withdrew his nomination for Hamilton City Council (Ward 9) and confidently filed to run for Public School Trustee in Wards 9 & 10 for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.
"Given my community work and extensive public policy experience in education, I believe that my strengths will compliment the work of the public school board and build its capacity for student success" said Galindo.
As a previous member of the Minister of Education's Student Advisory Committee, Cam actively participated in provincial consultations that modernized Teacher Education in Ontario by enhancing the practicum and quality of training.
"My priority will be to put students first. As trustee, I will focus on community engagement, creating youth opportunities, and building partnerships. It would be a privilege to serve my community."
Cam also served on the Premier's Council on Youth Opportunities, an advisory body consisting of youth, young professionals, and front-line workers who provide advice to the Premier and ministers on how to enhance youth-oriented programs, policies, strategies and resources. Cam helped design a $5 million youth opportunities fund and advised on a $295 million youth job strategy fund. In addition, Cam offered input on several pieces of provincial legislation including the Poverty Reduction Strategy, the Ontario Education Strategy, future directions in Youth Justice Services, Ontario's Youth Action Plan, the Aboriginal Child and Youth Strategy, Ontario's Culture Strategy, and the provincial Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan.
Cam has an honours degree in political science from McMaster University with a minor in economics and a business studies certificate from Mohawk College.
This year's municipal election is on October 22nd, 2018.
